Liquid Chlorophyll

Vegetables are incredibly beneficial to our health – so much so that a 2017 study by Imperial College London highlighted the benefits of consuming 10-a-day rather than 5-a-day. Leafy green vegetables are particularly healthful, helping to improve everything from bone strength and brain function to eye health and energy levels.

Super Greens Have Chlorophyll in Common

What do these super green foods have in common? Well, for one they all contain an abundance of chlorophyll. And what is chlorophyll, we hear you ask. It is the molecule which allows plants to absorb energy from light, and it is also responsible for giving plants and algae their distinctive colour. Because of its vital role in photosynthesis, chlorophyll is sometimes given the name ‘plant blood’.

Packed with vitamins and minerals, chlorophyll has become popular in recent years with green food enthusiasts, juicers, detoxers and adherents of the alkaline diet. It has even been labelled a wonder food. That’s because chlorophyll benefits the body just as it benefits plants in nature.

To understand just why chlorophyll is so well-regarded, it’s worth noting that its molecular structure is similar to heme, part of haemoglobin present in human blood. While the central atom in heme is iron, in chlorophyll it is magnesium. Haemoglobin, of course, carries oxygen to the lungs to be released into tissues throughout the body.

While the health benefits of chlorophyll are a subject of continued research, the antioxidant and antimutagenic capacity of dietary chlorophyll has been noted, as has its protective properties against carcinogenesis. More broadly, it is regarded as an excellent cleanser which can encourage proper bowel movement and help balance the pH of the body.

What is Liquid Chlorophyll?

We’ve covered chlorophyll, but what is liquid chlorophyll? In simple terms, liquid chlorophyll is chlorophyll extracted from plants and mixed with purified water. As such, drinking liquid chlorophyll is an easy way of ensuring you receive the essential vitamins and nutrients chlorophyll is known for. These include betacarotene, vitamins A, C, E and K, and magnesium.

Juara Liquid Chlorophyll is a concentrated source chlorophyll from alfalfa grass. Because it does not contain preservatives, artificial colourings, sugars or additives, it is readily absorbed by the body. Although it gives a welcome nutritional boost to any juice or smoothie, it is best taken with lukewarm water.

The Science bit!

Liquid chlorophyll is the green pigment which is found in plants. It facilitates the absorption of light from the sun and this harnessed energy is then used for many biological processes such as photosynthesis.

Interestingly, the molecular structure of chlorophyll is similar to haemoglobin, a vital component of blood. The only difference being their centralised atom, which is magnesium for chlorophyll and iron for haemoglobin. Because of these unique similarities, liquid chlorophyll is becoming increasingly popular.
